LASG to Intensify Enforcement along Apapa, Lekki Port Corridors

The Lagos State Government is set to intensify its enforcement efforts along the Apapa and Lekki Port corridors following recent feedback and an assessment of the traffic situation in the two areas.
In a strategy meeting headed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa at the Ministry of Transportation, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, the Special Adviser disclosed that gaps were identified in the current enforcement process, necessitating a re-jig of the strategy.
He said the ministry will deploy more traffic management personnel to the Lekki Port corridor to strengthen truckers’ compliance with the E-Call-Up system and ensure the seamless movement of articulated trucks in and out of the ports.
The Special Adviser also assured that the ministry has scheduled the implementation of the improved enforcement strategy, urging officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to remain committed to the diligent discharge of their duties.
Present at the strategy meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa disclosed that a shift schedule of duty will be deployed for LASTMA officers on both corridors which will ensure their presence at all-time while those found underperforming will be redeployed immediately.
The Transportation Permanent Secretary also warned all operators of illegal parks around the two ports area to comply with the state’s operational guidelines.
The Ministry of Transportation urged all stakeholders to voluntarily comply with the E- Call-Up system to minimize congestion along the port corridors, adding that subsequent pleas for clemency from violators after enforcement will not be entertained.
In attendance at the strategy meeting are; the General Manager, LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA, Director Operations, LASTMA Controllers, Commanders Zebras and other senior officers in charge of the two corridors.
